Synopsis
An idealistic confronted with the fetid corruption of national politics stands his ground in Frank Capra's Oscar-winning American classic "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939). Jefferson Smith (the great Jimmy Stewart) is ecstatic when he's appointed to fill a seat in the U.S. Senate. But he learns the realities of Washington the hard way when crooked politicians try to destroy him with a ginned-up scandal. An indictment of a bent system and a celebration of the common man. Co-starring Jean Arthur and Claude Rains.
